Yes, we’re getting Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory on Switch, but to say that game is a far cry from the core games of the past is an understatement. Franchise Director Tetsuya Nomura, in an interview with Nintendo Enthusiast, shut down any idea of literally any of the prior Kingdom Hearts games coming to Switch. Here is a quote:
Through a translator, Tetsuya Nomura confirmed there are currently no specific plans for more Kingdom Hearts games on Switch. Square Enix did consider ports of existing games for Switch in the past but found that it was technologically difficult.
This is naturally disappointing. While some can maybe understand why Kingdom Hearts 3 can’t come to Switch, we have seen prior Kingdom Hearts games appear on Nintendo platforms such as the Nintendo 3DS. To imagine the 3DS is more capable of getting these games than Switch is seems like a stretch at best. While a bit of a marvel as well, we have seen games like The Witcher 3 run acceptably on the platform, plus there are rumors and reports swirling around some upgraded hardware next year.
It’s a little sad to see the franchise written off for the most popular platform at the moment.
